A cleanliness campaign that began with one young man cleaning a polluted river in Madhya Pradesh has now reached Delhi. Surendra Singh Choudhary, known as Bittu Tabahi, has started taking his message to other places and has now joined a cleanup drive along the Yamuna. In a video shared on September 21, he spoke about his first cleanup activity in Delhi and said 585 kg of waste was removed during the drive.
Choudhary became known after sharing videos of his work cleaning the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh. His efforts later brought him an invitation from Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, to work with the organisation.
Bittu Explains His Yamuna Cleanup Plan
In the latest video, Choudhary said he wanted to visit different states and
spread awareness about keeping public places clean. He said his work reached Philip Morris, which then supported the Delhi cleanup drive.
“As you all know, I had undertaken a mission to travel to different states and spread awareness about cleanliness. I really wanted to come to Delhi to clean up the Yamuna River. My video reached Philip Morris, and he provided immense support for this initiative; he organized a cleanup drive for today, Sunday, the 20th, and has been a huge help to me.”
He said the drive was held as part of World Cleanup Day activities and took place along the Yamuna riverbank.
The Team Removes 585 Kg Of Waste
Choudhary said the area had a large amount of waste, including plastic and religious items. He said volunteers worked together for several hours to clear the riverbank.
“Today, the 20th, is World Cleanup Day, so we are conducting cleanup activities over a three-day period. I am here on the banks of the Yamuna; there is a lot of trash, along with items like idols of deities, and today we are going to clean it all up.”
“This is our first cleanup drive in Delhi, and with everyone’s help, we managed to remove a total of 585 kg of waste. So, tell me, who is coming tomorrow?” he said at the end of his clip.
In his Instagram caption, he wrote, “September 20th, World Cleanup Day. Four and a half hours of cleaning along the banks of the Yamuna, and together we removed 585 kg of waste.”
He also said, “The ghat was littered with flower garlands, ritual offerings, plastic, and more. Locals joined in to lend a hand, and the entire riverbank was cleaned up. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated.”

Thanking Philip Morris for its support, Choudhary said the campaign would continue in Gurugram.
