Chennai Rain: Incessant rain continues to batter several parts of Tamil Nadu. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued Red and Orange alerts for several districts on Wednesday. Reportedly,
eight districts including Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Thanjavur are under Red alert today. All schools are closed on October 22 in Chennai.
The Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and Wednesday and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from October 21st to 25th.
“For today and tomorrow, we have given an extremely heavy rainfall warning to the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu… Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea from 21st to 25th,” B. Amudha, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai told ANI.
Flood Alert For Madurai
Heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging, flood alerts and traffic congestion in several areas. A flood alert has been issued in Madurai as the water level of the Vaigai River surges following heavy rain.
Incessant rainfall is predicted across various districts throughout the week.
Chennai Schools Closed
All schools in Chennai will be closed on Wednesday due to a heavy rain warning, according to an announcement made by Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade. District collectors in Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Ranipet have also announced holidays for their districts’ schools and colleges, in addition to Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday conducted field inspections to review precautionary and preventive measures being undertaken across Chennai to face the Northeast Monsoon.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also reviewed measures to tackle heavy rains with officials, as the regional weather office has issued intense downpour alerts for several coastal districts.
