Govt’s ‘GoIStats’ App Gets CSIR Backing, To Be Promoted Across Labs

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has directed all its labs and units to disseminate and adopt the newly launched ‘GoIStats’ internally, giving the app an institutional push across

the national research network.

In an office memorandum issued on Tuesday, the CSIR’s Policy Division directed the directors and heads of all national laboratories, institutes, headquarters and units to circulate, adopt and ensure compliance with the GoIStats initiative internally.

In June, marking Statistics Day, the National Sample Survey Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), launched the ‘GoIStats’ mobile application. The initiative marks a significant milestone in India’s commitment to making official statistics accessible and user-centric for all citizens.

The app is a part of MoSPI’s broader digital transformation to remove time and place barriers to government data access and improve usability for stakeholders.

The formal CSIR adoption has widened the user base, bringing scientists and administrators across India’s largest R&D system into the fold. The app has crossed 10,000 downloads so far, up from 8,040 in August.

The app was a result of the government’s effort to build an all-encompassing data ecosystem where every stakeholder can seamlessly access official data on the go. The application offers an interactive dashboard showcasing important socio-economic indicators in numbers as well as visuals.

The app features Key Trends dashboards, infographics, release calendars, and one‑click access to NSO datasets can streamline evidence use in labs, ministries, and newsrooms, advancing MoSPI’s data‑on‑the‑go vision.

The app so far covered National Accounts Statistics, Consumer Price Index, Periodic Labour Force Survey, Index of Industrial Production, Annual Survey of Industries and Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises. As of August, the app offered six domains consisting of nine indicators.

The addition of the national statistical resources into the research workflows will help scientists align projects more closely with real-time trends.

The app has already empowered every Indian to engage meaningfully with government data, for better data literacy and participatory governance.

For a common man, the GoIStats app allows easier access to government data without needing technical expertise or lengthy reports. It allows students, entrepreneurs, and researchers to explore key indicators in real time.
