A car driver was fined Rs 10,000 after a video went viral showing him refusing to give way to a government ambulance carrying a critically ill woman. The incident occurred in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh,
where the private vehicle repeatedly blocked the ambulance for nearly six kilometres and ignored its siren.
Despite the emergency situation, the man continued to drive ahead, preventing the ambulance from passing.

The video, shared by the ambulance driver on social media, quickly gained attention online and sparked outrage among viewers. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed that the police reviewed the video and took action against the car driver, who was identified as Indra Pratap Singh from Tilhar and issued a challan under Section 194(E) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The police also confirmed that the patient finally made it to the hospital and received the necessary medical care.
While recording the car blocking the ambulance, the driver can be heard saying, “This car is not giving any space. Even when we try to cross, it still doesn’t move aside.”

After the clip circulated online, Shahjahanpur Police replied, “A challan of Rs 10,000 has been issued against the relevant vehicle under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.”

Authorities Warn Such Delays Can Be Life-Threatening
As per Hindustan Times, an official supervising the Ambulance service said, “The car driver caused an obstruction for around 25 minutes. The delay could have been fatal.”
SP (city) Rajesh Dwivedi added, “Giving passage to ambulances is mandatory. The ambulance was transporting a woman patient in serious condition who needed urgent medical attention. Despite the continuous siren, the car driver did not allow it to pass.”
Authorities also urged all road users to always give way to ambulances and other emergency vehicles, emphasising that it is not only a legal obligation but also a fundamental act of humanity.
