Indian shuttler Devika Sihag’s impressive journey at the Indonesia Masters concluded after she lost the women’s singles final to Japan’s former world champion Nozomi Okuhara on Sunday.
The 20-year-old from Haryana, who won the Malaysia International Challenge title in August, was defeated 11-21, 9-21 by the top-seeded Okuhara in a one-sided final of the Super 100 tournament.
Eighth seed Sihag had earlier triumphed over Macau’s Pui Chi Wa in the opening round, followed by victories against Lee So Yui of Chinese Taipei, Ishika Jaiswal of the USA, and local favourite Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari on her way to the final.
Sihag, considered one of India’s promising young shuttlers, had also claimed titles at the Swedish Open and Portugal International last
year, and finished as runner-up at the Estonian International and Dutch International events.
