Netherlands Vs Sweden Highlights, FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Today (NED vs SWE Football Match Scorecard & Commentary):
The Netherlands secured their first victory of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with an emphatic 5–1 win over Sweden in their Group F encounter at Houston Stadium in the United States on Saturday.
Ronald Koeman’s side took control early and never looked back, with Brian Brobbey starring in the opening stages. The striker, who was the only change from the team that drew 2–2 with Japan in their opening match, justified his inclusion by scoring twice within the first 17 minutes. He first finished off a flowing Dutch attack in the seventh minute before adding a second ten minutes later to put Oranje firmly in command.
Sweden thought they had
found a way back into the contest when Carl Starfelt Lagerbielke headed the ball into the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside, denying Blågult a crucial lifeline before the break.
The Dutch tightened their grip on the match soon after halftime. Cody Gakpo extended the lead early in the second half before striking again moments later, cutting inside onto his right foot to beat the goalkeeper and make it 4–0.
Sweden eventually got on the scoresheet through Anthony Elanga, who reduced the deficit just before the hour mark. The Scandinavians pushed hard for another goal and came close on several occasions, including an effort from Yasin Ayari that struck the wrong side of the post.
Elanga remained a constant threat and later created an opportunity for Alexander Isak from outside the area, but Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen produced an important save to preserve his side’s comfortable advantage.
Having weathered Sweden’s brief spell of pressure, the Netherlands put the result beyond doubt when Crysencio Summerville, who had also scored in the draw against Japan, added a fifth goal to complete a dominant and entertaining performance.
The convincing victory handed the Dutch their first three points of the tournament and strengthened their position in Group F after opening their campaign with a draw.
