Chennai, Jun 4 (PTI) After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s recent directive to shut down 727 liquor outlets across the state, TVK MLA Revanth Saran formally petitioned the government on Thursday for the immediate closure of four TASMAC shops causing severe public nuisance in his constituency.
Speaking to reporters here, Saran stated that out of the 23 alcohol retail outlets operating within the Maduravoyal assembly limits, a comprehensive audit identified four high-priority shops situated within a 500-meter radius of schools, hospitals, and places of worship.
“Out of 23, specifically, four shops were located within 500 meters near schools, hospitals, and temples. Therefore, we have submitted a petition to Minister Vignesh asking to close
those four liquor shops,” Saran said.
He noted that these specific establishments have led to significant law and order issues, severely obstructing and compromising the safety of local residents, particularly school-bound children and women during night hours.
The legislator confirmed that a detailed field report has been submitted to Prohibition and Excise Minister Vignesh, with a copy forwarded to the Managing Director of TASMAC, both of whom have promised immediate corrective intervention.
Addressing separate grievances regarding frequent, prolonged midnight power outages targeting the constituency, Saran asserted that he along with officials had inspected electrical infrastructure and local EB offices overnight.
He cited heat-induced technical wear and damaged wiring as primary drivers, saying that a representation is being made to Electricity Minister R Nirmal Kumar to execute swift infrastructural upgrades and prevent recurring blackouts. PTI JR JR ROH
