AAP leader Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi was shot dead after armed assailants allegedly chased the motorcycle on which he was travelling and opened fire in Mamdot town in Punjab’s border district Ferozepur on Sunday evening.
The incident took place at around 7:45 pm. According to the police, Gopi and a man were riding a motorcycle when the attackers, who were travelling in a car, chased them and opened fire.
Gopi sustained serious bullet injuries in the firing. He was rushed to a hospital in Ferozepur for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following information about the shooting, DSP Ferozepur Rural Karan Kumar Sharma reached the spot along with a heavy police force.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are
examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the attackers.
