England topped the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L with their 2-0 win over Panama in their final group assignment at the New York New Jersey Stadium in USA on Sunday.
Second half strikes from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane helped Three Lions register a resounding triumph over Panama, while Croatia beat Ghana 2-1 to finish second in the group.
England midfielder Bellingham broke the deadlock after the hour mark as he put Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions ahead, before Kane doubled the English advantage a mere five minutes later.
Kane’s strike was the Bayern Munich superstar’s eleventh goal for England at the World Cup, making him the highest goalscorer for Three Lions at the quadrennial showpiece ahed of the iconic Gary Lineker.
Veteran English midfielder
Jordan Henderson also revelled in a bit of history for himself as he came on to replace Kane for the final knocking of the game as the former Liverpool man became the first English player to feature in four different editions of the World Cup.
Croatia managed to finish second in the group following their 2-1 victory against Ghana, who were pushed to third in the group but stand a chance to qualify for the knockouts of the FIFA flagship as one of the best eight third-placed sides from across the board.
Petar Susic struck shortly after the half-hour mark for Croatia, who took the lead into the break, before Ghana pulled back on level terms through Derrick Luckassen to briefly go second in the group. Croatia, however, had the last laugh as Nikola Vlasic found the back of the net to restore Kockasti’s advantage and climb back into the automatic qualification place form the group.
