Former India and Chennai Super Kings star Ravichandran Ashwin has said that MS Dhoni can be a good fit as coach for the five-time champions if Stephen Fleming decides to leave the top job at the franchise, after CSK were eliminated from the playoffs race in IPL 2026.
Chennai Super Kings endured a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, missing out on the playoffs after losing their final three league games. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team finished with six victories and eight losses from 14 matches.
The spotlight has now shifted to Fleming, with reports suggesting the team management is all set to review the reasons behind the team’s dip in form.
Fleming addressed questions over his future, saying that head coaches are evaluated on results and that any
decision regarding his role would rest with the management.
Reacting on X, one fan joked that if the Chennai Super Kings were to replace Fleming as head coach, the role shouldn’t go to Ashwin. The fan claimed that the latter would reveal his playing XI on his YouTube channel even before the game started.
“Absolutely agree with you! I will announce 11 and make sure the opposition knows the bowling and batting plans as well.🤝🤝,” Ashwin replied on Saturday morning.

In fact, the above will ensure that the anti corruption unit will take me to task & will also ensure my own failure.

“Adding on: When Msd is there, why are you searching for anyone at all?” Ashwin added.
Dhoni didn’t feature in a single game during IPL 2026 after being sidelined with a calf strain. After his recovery and rehab, he then suffered a thumb injury ahead of the team’s final match of the season.
