Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt recently reflected on how spending more than 70 days in jail transformed his perspective on life and relationships. He also revealed that he was allegedly given an opportunity to secure an early release by paying money, but chose not to take that route. In 2025, Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were booked by the Rajasthan Police over accusations of misappropriating significant funds. After remaining in judicial custody for over two months, the couple was granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Recently, while speaking to ANI, Vikram Bhatt described the past few months as one of the most difficult phases of his life, saying the experience taught him several important lessons. The filmmaker also claimed that he was
advised to reach a settlement with a powerful individual to resolve the matter, but he declined. He said, “My wife and I were innocent. My daughter didn’t do anything. But I understood one thing while I was in jail, the power of prayer. I have always believed in God, but there I surrendered everything to Him. I told myself, ‘Look, I am not wealthy enough to hire the world’s best lawyers. If I have any support, it is from God.’ Someone told me to strike a deal with a very powerful person. I replied, ‘I may not be powerful, but my God is. If I am not a criminal, I will get bail. And even after securing bail, if the case continues, I will prove my innocence.”
He also revealed that some of his friends don’t speak to him now after the jail ordeal. Bhatt added, “There are some friends who no longer speak to me, even though they used to before. Maybe they believe I did something wrong, or perhaps they simply don’t want to associate with someone who has been to jail. That could be the reason. But I always think that those who know me don’t believe me. Those who believe me don’t really know me.”
Despite the hardships, Vikram Bhatt said he formed unexpected bonds during his time in prison, where he shared a barrack with several other inmates. Recalling his first night behind bars, the filmmaker revealed that he arrived at the jail quite late. To his surprise, the inmates welcomed him warmly and went out of their way to make him comfortable. According to Bhatt, some arranged a sleeping space for him, while others offered essentials such as a pillow, a blanket and even a bottle of water.
