The latest glimpse of Christopher Nolan’s next big-screen spectacle came with an unexpected twist — and fans are still processing it. A new teaser for The Odyssey didn’t just tease epic battles or grand visuals; it dropped a surprise voice that nobody saw coming: Travis Scott.
The rapper has quietly made his movie debut in Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s classic, and the reveal has sparked instant chatter online. The one-minute television spot aired during Fox’s broadcast of the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, and briefly introduced Scott in a mysterious role.
In the clip, a tense exchange between Jon Bernthal’s Menelaus and Tom Holland’s Telemachus is interrupted by Scott’s character, who enters
the frame with the heavy thud of a staff, instantly shifting the mood. He delivers a chilling monologue: “A war, a man, a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy.” As the visuals expand to scenes of destruction from the Trojan War, he adds, “It’s burning, screaming to the ground.”
The appearance marks Scott’s first on-screen acting role and one of the most unexpected casting choices in Nolan’s career, instantly igniting reactions across social media.
Fans were quick to share their disbelief. “Yes, Travis Scott is in The Odyssey film and has a speaking role…” one user posted, while another bluntly remarked, “They just be letting anyone in.” Others echoed the surprise: “Bro what when was Travis casted in it…” and “This is a tweet I never expected to read.”
Some viewers found humour in the unlikely pairing. “Wait Travis Scott and Christopher Nolan, that was not on my bingo card,” one fan joked. Others seemed genuinely excited, writing, “Okay someone tell me I’m not the only one obsessing over this first look,” and “I’m really looking forward to this movie.” Not everyone was convinced, though, with a sceptical take asking, “Why is all the rappers trying to be actors now?”
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as the legendary Greek hero Odysseus and boasts a sprawling ensemble cast that includes Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Elliott Page, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton. With Travis Scott now added to the mix, Nolan’s mythological epic has only heightened curiosity ahead of its July 17 release.
