During the candid conversation, Farah Khan asked Poonam, “Nepal tak toh baat phail chukti thi but apko kab pata chala ki ye dono date kar rahe the (When did you get to know about these two dating each other)?” Sonakshi burst into giggles as her mother revealed that she had no idea about their relationship for nearly five years.

Poonam went on to mention that she only became aware much later, around the time Sonakshi and Zaheer travelled to see the Northern Lights during which Zaheer proposed to Sonakshi. When Farah pointed out that the two had already been dating for several years before that, Poonam reiterated, “Mujhe nahi pata tha (I didn’t know)!”

‘Camera Pe Jhooth Mat Bolo’

That’s when Sonakshi stepped in, playfully correcting her mother. Laughing, she said, “Mummy, camera pe jhooth mat bolo. Sabse pehle apko bola tha, apne papa ko nahi bataya (Don’t lie to the camera! I told you first and you did not tell father)!” The moment instantly lightened the mood, with Farah and the rest of the group laughing at the family banter.

Poonam then added that while she may not have been officially told at the time, she had sensed something brewing between Sonakshi and Zaheer. She recalled noticing small gestures, like Sonakshi taking trays or doing little tasks for Zaheer, which made her suspect there was more than just friendship between them.
The exchange offered fans a rare glimpse into Sonakshi’s close-knit family dynamic, highlighting the warmth, humour and honesty that define her relationship with her parents.

A Love Story Seven Years in the Making

Sonakshi Sinha made her relationship with actor Zaheer Iqbal official by marrying him on June 23 last year — the same date they began dating seven years earlier. The couple opted for an intimate wedding ceremony, followed by a celebratory bash for close friends and family later that evening.

Sharing their wedding photos, Sonakshi and Zaheer penned an emotional note that read, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife.”
