France and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has paid a heartfelt tribute to his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the Portuguese icon as a personal mentor, a constant source of inspiration, and “the symbol of Real Madrid.”
The 25-year-old forward, currently sidelined with a right ankle injury, was forced to withdraw from the French national team camp after taking another knock during Les Bleus’ 3–0 win over Azerbaijan.
As a precaution, Mbappé will miss France’s upcoming trip to Iceland, with the national staff opting not to risk further aggravation ahead of crucial fixtures for both France and Real Madrid.
Mbappé on Ronaldo: “He’s Always Been the Perfect Example for Me”
In an interview with Movistar TV, Mbappé spoke candidly about his admiration
for Ronaldo — both as a footballer and as a person.
“Cristiano has always been a perfect example for me,” Mbappé said. “His hard work, dedication, and determination on the field inspire me. Ronaldo is the symbol and standard of Real Madrid. People still remember him and speak about him with respect.”
Mbappé, who grew up watching Ronaldo dominate European football, often credits the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as the model for his own professionalism and ambition.
Beyond admiration, Mbappé revealed that Ronaldo has personally reached out to advise and encourage him throughout his career.
“He has given me advice many times,” Mbappé shared. “His experience — both in football and in life — is very important to me. Every word he says gives me strength.”
Ronaldo’s Legacy Still Shines in Madrid
Mbappé also reflected on Ronaldo’s enduring impact at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“Ronaldo is the face of Real Madrid, the club’s greatest symbol,” he said. “Even though he left long ago, people in Madrid still admire him and continue to speak about him.”
Ronaldo, who represented Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018, remains the club’s all-time leading scorer with 450 goals in 438 appearances. During his nine glittering seasons, he won four Ballon d’Ors, four Champions League titles, and cemented his legacy as one of the greatest to ever wear the white shirt.
Today, at 40, Ronaldo continues to defy age and expectations with Al Nassr, while Mbappé carries the torch for the next generation of global superstars.
“Cristiano’s love for the game, for improvement, and for winning — that’s what I try to emulate every day,” Mbappé said.
“He’s more than a player; he’s an example.”
