Despite opening to negative reviews, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has quietly carved out a strong box office run. Positive word of mouth has kept audiences returning, helping the film cross Rs 30 crore in India in just five days.
Box Office Performance
Trade tracker Sacnilk reports that the film earned Rs 9 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 7.75 crore on Day 2. Day 3 saw collections of Rs 6 crore, while Day 4 brought in Rs 5.5 crore. On its first Saturday, the Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa starrer collected Rs 5.75 crore, taking the total to Rs 34 crore. Notably, the film recorded a 4.55% growth on Saturday, bucking the typical weekday decline.
Competition and Challenges The film faced competition from Maddock Films’ horror-comedy Thamma, starring
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. Despite releasing on fewer screens, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has managed a respectable performance, while Thamma inches closer to Rs 80 crore and crosses Rs 100 crore worldwide.
Creative Perspective
The film has drawn criticism for promoting regressive and misogynistic themes. Director Milap Zaveri, however, acknowledged the polarising reactions.
In a video that is doing rounds on social media, Harshvardhan could be seen standing next to his co-star Sonam Bajwa when he thanked the audience for giving him love and also for watching Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma and giving love to two outsiders. The actor said, “This Diwali, you supported the films of two outsiders. Ayushmann Khurrana’s film has released along with mine. Watch both the films, please, and enjoy both. This sends a good message out that aap logon ne akele poora ka poora Bollywood se nepotism hi khatm kar diya (you people alone finished nepotism from the entire Bollywood).”
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Review
News18 Showsha gave the film 1.5 stars. An excerpt from the review read, “Through the whole film, you only feel bad for three people — Anant Mahadevan, Sachin Khedekar and YOURSELF! Why have they done the film and why are you doing this to yourself! To sum it up, the film is the only thing you need to burst out of the big screen this Diwali. Bajwa’s character, in the film, refers to Rane’s character as Ravan. Well, she’s not wrong completely. The Ravan this Diwali is the whole film. Even if there’s nothing for you to do this festive season and you want to watch a film for the sake of it, even then, Milap Milan Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyatis not an option.
Cast and Production
Produced by Desi Movies Factory, the film also stars Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, and Rajesh Khera in pivotal roles.
