Itanagar, Jul 1 (PTI): Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju, accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive on-ground assessment of flood damage at Boying village in East Siang district following the overflow of Sibo Korong River, an official report said.
The high-level delegation inspected the worst-hit areas, reviewed the impact on public infrastructure, agricultural land, and private property, and interacted with affected residents to take stock of ongoing relief and restoration efforts.
Assuring full central assistance, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre is committed to supporting the state in rebuilding
damaged infrastructure and ensuring timely relief to every affected family.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju said unprecedented flooding in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam was triggered by exceptionally heavy rainfall, exceeding 200 mm in a single night in several areas. He reiterated the Centre’s firm support for the rehabilitation of affected communities.
Khandu emphasised that the state government’s immediate priority is ensuring citizen safety, providing timely relief, and expediting infrastructure restoration, promising that no effort would be spared.
The assessment team included East Siang Guardian Minister Nyato Dukam, local MLAs Oken Tayeng and Tapi Darang, East Siang deputy commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, and SP Pankaj Lamba, among other senior officials. PTI CORR MNB
