Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might just be 14 years old, but he’s already breaking records for fun. On Wednesday, he stormed to a 36-ball century in Bihar’s opening match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 against
Arunachal in Ranchi.
And he didn’t stop there.
Sooryavanshi continued his brazen assault on hapless Arunachal bowlers and soon raised his 150 in a mere 54 deliveries. And in doing so, the teenager broke South Africa legend AB de Villiers’ world record of having struck the quickest 150 in List A history when he smashed West Indies attacks into smithereens during the 2015 ODI World Cup, taking 64 deliveries to get there.
Sooryavanshi was looking set for a historic double-century when Techi Neri dislodged him on 190 in the 27th over of Bihar’s innings. This is his maiden century of List A career.
Sooryavanshi Hits 2nd Quickest List A Century By An Indian
Sooryavanshi took 36 deliveries to reach three figures and missed the record for matching the fastest century in the format by an Indian by just one ball. Anmolpreet Singh holds the record for quickest ton by an Indian, having taken 35 balls to get there against Arunachal in 2024. Yusuf Pathan is third on this list (with 40 deliveries), followed by Urvil Patel (41) and Abhishek Sharma (42).
The record for the fastest List A century is by Jake Fraser-McGurk of Australia when he took 29 deliveries to get to the milestone for South Australia against Tasmania in Adelaide.
In ODIs, De Villiers holds the record in 31 deliveries – vs. West Indies in 2014.
During his stay, Sooryavanshi carted 16 fours and 15 sixes – 154 of his 190 coming in boundaries alone.
The performance comes just days after he represented an India U19 team at the Asia Cup in UAE where his team finished as the runners-up. He had a mixed tournament which he kickstarted by belting 171 against UAE and a 50 against Malaysia. Against Pakistan, he managed scores of 5 (group-stage match) and 26 (final) while 9 vs. Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
