Kolkata, Jun 23 (PTI) E-commerce major Amazon on Tuesday spotlighted the growing role of West Bengal’s seller community ahead of its annual Prime Day sale, saying more than 70,000 sellers from the state are using its marketplace to reach customers across India.
The company announced that the 10th edition of Prime Day will run from July 4 to July 6, offering deals, product launches and promotional offers for Prime members.
However, Amazon used the occasion to underscore the growth of its seller ecosystem in West Bengal, where over 20,000 local shops are also active on its platform.
Amazon said it has introduced an AI-powered Seller Assistant ahead of Prime Day to help merchants manage listings, inventory, pricing and daily operations through conversational
prompts.
“Amazon is deeply committed to enabling business growth for sellers in West Bengal, with over 70,000 sellers from the state and over 20,000 Local Shops actively selling on Amazon.in,” the company said in a statement.
The company said the new AI-based tools are aimed at simplifying operations and helping businesses scale more efficiently on the marketplace.
Alongside seller-focused initiatives, Amazon highlighted improvements in its logistics network across the state. It said continued investments in fulfilment and infrastructure have helped improve delivery speeds, with same-day and next-day deliveries in Kolkata increasing by more than 60 per cent.
Amazon’s network in West Bengal comprises three fulfilment centres, three sortation centres, more than 1,050 Amazon Hub Delivery partners and nearly 100 company-owned and partner delivery stations.
Pallavi Singh, Senior Manager, Prime India, said Prime Day has seen strong adoption among customers in West Bengal over the years.
However, she did not share details of sales figures of 70,000 sellers in Bengal out of some 17 lakh spread across the country.
Amazon announced plans to invest over Rs 2,800 crore in India to expand and upgrade its operations in infrastructure and delivery network.
Company officials, however, did not provide details on the share of the investment earmarked for West Bengal or eastern India. PTI BSM NN
