Veteran Actress Tulasi Announces Retirement, Says She’s Ready To Enjoy ‘Newfound Freedom’

Veteran actress Tulasi has announced her retirement from the film industry, marking the end of a career that spanned multiple languages and more than five decades. The actor shared the update on Instagram,

saying she is ready to step away from work and embrace a new phase of life.

Tulasi revealed her decision in a personal note posted on social media. “In continuation of my shirdi darshan this december 31’ i’wish myself a happy retirement will continue my journey in peace with SAINADHA thanking all for helping me learn life SAIRAM,” she wrote. Alongside her message, she included another line that read, “Happy Retirement! Here’s to enjoying every minute of your newfound freedom and adventures.”

A prominent figure across Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil cinema, Tulasi’s work also extended to Malayalam and Bhojpuri films. Over the course of her career, she appeared in more than 300 movies and earned accolades including two Nandi Awards and a Filmfare Award.

Tulasi first appeared on screen in the 1967 Telugu film Bharya. She later entered mainstream cinema as a child artist with K. Balachander’s Arangetram in 1973. As the years progressed, she transitioned into notable supporting roles and collaborated with some of Indian cinema’s most respected names, including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi and Vijay Sethupathi.

Her filmography includes several celebrated titles such as Seetamalakshmi (1978), Sankarabharanam (1979) and Mudda Mandaram (1981), films that contributed to her steady rise as a dependable and versatile performer.

Tulasi’s first appearance on screen came when she was just three months old in a 1967 Telugu film, after actress Savitri requested her mother who was a close friend to let the infant be part of a song sequence. She later appeared in another song at the age of three-and-a-half for Jeevanatarangalu, and has said that she began acting in earnest by the time she turned four.
