A woman from Bengaluru has sparked debate on the rising cost of living in the city and everyday expenses. Dipa Gupta posted a video on Instagram, talking about how quickly money seems to disappear in Bengaluru.
Sharing her personal experience, she said even small, routine activities now feel unusually expensive. According to her, spending Rs 500 today feels no different from spending Rs 50 earlier, as daily costs add up faster than people realise.
Gupta pointed out that expenses pile up whether one steps out of the house or stays in. A quick snack, a short outing or minor purchases can unexpectedly stretch the budget.
She also questioned why living in the city has become so costly, noting that even modest spending often leaves people surprised by how much they have spent.
Her video was posted with a humorous caption,”Bangalore doesn’t take your breath away; it just takes your 10% annual increment.”

Many social media users found the post relatable. The video struck a chord online and has so far attracted over 70,000 views.
Several users also took to the comment section and shared their own experiences.
“This is so true,” said one user. A second wrote, “I can completely relate”. Many said the video captured what everyday life in the city currently feels like.
The post has once again highlighted concerns around affordability in Bengaluru, especially for young professionals and middle-class families. It also adds to the broader discussion on rising urban living costs across India’s major cities, where changing lifestyles and economic pressures continue to push everyday expenses higher.
