Veerannagattupalli (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 5 (PTI) A government bus caught fire after coming into contact with a low-hanging high-tension electric wire in Kadapa district on the Vempalli–Rayachoti main road on Sunday, police said.
However, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The bus was proceeding from Kadapa to Kadiri via Vempalli and Talupula when the incident occurred.
“Sparks were triggered after the (APSRTC) bus came in contact with a low-hanging high-tension electric wire, which led to a fire. The driver, conductor and all passengers were safely evacuated in time. No casualties or injuries were reported,” Pulivendula Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Murli Naik told PTI.
According to preliminary information, the contact with the electric
wire caused sparks that quickly escalated into a fire, damaging the bus and the electrical line.
Initial findings suggest possible negligence by the roadwork contractor, electricity department and National Highways authority, as the road height was increased, bringing high-tension wires within dangerously reach.
Police also noted that the electricity department failed to take precautionary measures despite reduced clearance, which posed a risk.
Meanwhile, police are in the process of registering a case. PTI MS ROH
