Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill entered esteemed company with their knocks against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday as the duo notched up in surplus of 600 runs in two successive seasons of the IPL.
Sai added 84 off 53 runs after Gill made 64 runs from 37 deliveries to help GT to a total of 229/4 vs CSK. IPL icons Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, David Warner and KL have have managed to accomplish the feat in three consecutive seasons.
Gill and Sai gave the hosts a strong start, opening the innings in trademark style with a composed partnership.
Gill took on the aggressor’s role while Sai anchored the innings, as the GT skipper surged to a half-century off just 28 balls. The pair maintained their assault, pushing
the home side past 100 before the midway stage of the innings. Sudharsan kept the scoreboard moving at the other end and brought up his fifth consecutive fifty, while Jos Buttler joined him after Gill was dismissed for a brisk 64 off 37 by Spencer Johnson, who provided Chennai with their first breakthrough.
Sudharsan and Buttler then combined for an 84-run stand, keeping the Chennai bowlers under relentless pressure. Sudharsan’s superb 84 off 53 deliveries ended when he fell to Anshul Kamboj, before Gaikwad produced a sharp piece of fielding to remove Rahul Tewatia for a golden duck. Washington Sundar was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary for 7, while Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 off 27 balls, guiding GT to an imposing 229/4 in their 20 overs.
