The release of Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming sports drama Peddi is just days away, but the film’s pre-release buzz has also been shaped by a parallel discussion around ticket pricing and special screenings across Telugu states. While the makers initially pushed for a uniform hike approval in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the final outcome has taken a split route.
Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas, is set to hit theatres on June 4. Ahead of its release, the team had approached authorities seeking permission for special shows and revised ticket rates during the opening week.
However, approvals have not come equally from both states.
Andhra Pradesh allows early shows and price
revision
In Andhra Pradesh, the film has received clearance for paid premiere shows scheduled to begin on June 3 at 8 PM. As per reports, tickets for these special shows will be priced at ₹600, including GST.
In addition to the premiere pricing, the state government has also permitted an increase in regular ticket rates for the first week. Single-screen tickets can reportedly be raised by ₹100, while multiplex tickets may see a hike of ₹125. The permission also includes approval for up to five screenings per day, a move that is expected to strengthen opening collections.
Telangana petition withdrawn in High Court
The situation in Telangana took a different turn. According to reports, the vacation bench of the Telangana High Court was not inclined to intervene in the matter or direct the state government to take an immediate decision on the proposed ticket hike request.
The plea was filed by Mythri Movie Makers, seeking permission for increased ticket prices during the film’s first week. However, with similar petitions already pending before the court, concerns were raised that urgent directions could lead to procedural confusion.
With the bench showing reluctance to pass an interim order, the makers eventually withdrew their petition from the High Court.
Big canvas film with strong ensemble cast
Beyond the ticketing discussions, Peddi continues to remain one of the most anticipated Telugu releases of the year. The film features Ram Charan in a physically demanding role, alongside Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani in key roles. Music for the project has been composed by A.R. Rahman.
The sports drama is centred on a man from Vizianagaram who earns recognition as a “crossover athlete,” competing across cricket, traditional wrestling, and sprinting disciplines. Ram Charan reportedly underwent extensive physical preparation for the role and even sustained wrist and eye injuries during filming.
Ram Charan on PM Modi meeting and rural India story
During recent promotions in Delhi, Ram Charan also reflected on his earlier interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where Peddi briefly came up in conversation. Speaking at an event, he shared, “I told him it’s about an evolved India and empowering our villages.”
He further added, “It’s a very rooted movie, it’s a story of our soil, and I’m happy to be a part of such a rooted and inspiring story,” as quoted by PTI.
At another promotional interaction, the actor expanded on the conversation, recalling how the Prime Minister spoke about rural sports talent and a footballer from West Bengal whose village produced multiple players over time.
Ram Charan noted that such examples reflect the growing recognition of talent from India’s smaller towns and rural regions, adding that many sports like archery already see strong participation from tribal and village communities.
Film rooted in rural storytelling
The actor also emphasised that contemporary South Indian cinema is increasingly drawing from rural narratives rather than urban settings, highlighting how stories based in villages are shaping a distinct identity for regional films.
He also mentioned his involvement in initiatives like the Archery Premier League, which he has previously supported alongside his wife Upasana Kamineni Konidela, expressing hope that traditional sports continue to gain wider recognition.
