Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Tim David became the second fastest player to reach 1000 runs in the IPL with his knock against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
David added 26 runs vs DC to go past the four-digit run-mark in just 560 deliveries, the fastest after KKR icon Andre Russell, who did so in 545 deliveries.
With his accomplishment, David went past Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head and RCB star Phil Salt, who required 575 balls each to go past the milestone, and SRH superstar Heinrich Klaasen, who did so in 594 balls.
RCB were put to bat on the day after DC won the toss and opted to field first as the holders’ openers, Salt and Virat Kohli, went on to notch up a 52 runs partnership before the latter
fell for 19 off 13 to Lungisani Ngidi. Devdutt Padikkal added 18 off 13 before falling prey to opposition skipper Axar Patel.
Salt, who topped the scoring charts for RCB on the day with 63 runs fell to Kuldeep Yadav, before Mukesh Kumar removed RCB captain Rajat Patidar for just 8 off 4 deliveries.
David eventually fell to Axar for the spinner’s second wicket of the day, before Kuldeep also picked up his second of the day with the dismissal of Romario Shepherd for a solitary run.
Krunal Pandya was run out by KL Rahul for 12 runs off 10 before Jitesh Sharma fell to Ngidi for 14 off 20 balls, while Rashik Salam and Bhuvneshwar Kumar remained unbeaten on naught and 3 runs respectively to close out the innings at 175/8 in 20 overs.
