Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has lashed out at Pakistan’s Tanvir Ahmed, who commented that the former ‘roams around Pakistan cricketers’, after he was seen interviewing Umran Tariq during the recent ILT20, adding that no Pakistan ‘greats’ would ever say such things.
Calling out Tanvir, who featured in five Tests, two ODIs and one T20I between 2010 and 2013, Harbhajan launched a scathing attack, tearing into him and questioning his credentials in no uncertain terms.
Tanvir is a frequent face on various Pakistani TV channels, where he appears as a panellist offering his views on all things Pakistan cricket.
With Tariq in the spotlight for his unconventional and debated bowling action ahead of Sunday’s T20 World Cup showdown between India
and Pakistan, a remark from Tanvir didn’t go down well with Harbhajan, prompting the latter to fire back with a scathing, no-holds-barred response.
“This video is for a tuccha insaan (petty human being), who has said a few things about me. Ideally, I don’t even know who he is, but because I see that time and again, he does his drama on one platform or another,” Harbhajan said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“First, I want to know who this guy is. Do you even know him? His name is Tanvir Ahmed. He has played some 3-4 matches for Pakistan and he behaves as if he is Imran Khan, or Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis. Shame on you,” Harbhajan said.
“I was serving my role as a broadcaster in the ILT20. What is the role of a broadcaster? When someone wins the Man of the Match award, you ask him questions, right? Usman Tariq, the Pakistan spinner, picked up three wickets and won the match for his team,” Harbhajan added.
The former Indian cricketer said that as a broadcaster, he is supposed to ask questions to players.
“As a broadcaster, I am obviously supposed to ask him questions. But when I did so, this guy [Tanvir Ahmed] had a problem. Had I not asked him questions, he would have again thought that, since he is from Pakistan, I did not ask him questions. He said, wherever I see a Pakistani cricketer, I roam around them,” Harbhajan said.
