Lucknow Super Giants picked up their first home win of the season at the Ekana Stadium in on Thursday with a triumph over defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a nail-biting finish in IPL 2026.
LSG posted a total of 209 thanks to Mitch Marsh’s 111-run knock, before Prince Yadav’s three-wicket haul helped the hosts limit RCB to 202 runs in the 19-over truncated game.
RCB won the toss and opted to field first as Mitch Marsh and Arshin Kulkarni walked out to bat for LSG. The duo had an interrupted start due to rain early in the game, and had to endure another around the 9th over as the shower made an encore.
Marsh was in menacing mood as he raced to his half-century in 20 deliveries despite the start-stop nature of the innings, while
Kulkarni added 17 runs off 24 deliveries before Krunal Pandya got RCB the breakthrough after a 95-run stand in which Marsh was doing the heavy lifting.
Nicholas Pooran came out to accompany the big-hitting Aussie Marsh who continued his onslaught to race into triple-figures in under fifty deliveries to power LSG to 145/1 in 14 overs before rain decided to play spoilsport yet again.
Play resumed with the game truncated to 19-overs a side and Marsh was removed by the compatriot Josh Hazlewood for 111 runs off 56 deliveries. Pooran put up 38 runs off23 balls before Rashik Salam removed the Windies maverick, as skipper Rishabh Pant unbeaten on 32 off just 10 deliveries to take LSG to the total of 209/3 in 19 overs.
Chasing 213 in 124 balls, due to DLS Method, RCB suffered early shocks as Jacob Bethell fell to Mohammed Shami for just 4 runs, before Prince Yadav castled Virat Kohli for a duck with an absolute Jaffa.
Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the chase with a 96-runs stand as the skipper blazed to his fifty in just 26 deliveries, before the latter fell to Prince for 34 runs off 25.
Prince completed his three-fer with the removal of Jitesh Sharma for a single run off 3 deliveries as Tim David came in as the impact player for Suyash Sharma. Patidar was removed by Shabaz Ahmed for 61 off 31 deliveries, before David added 40 runs in just 17 deliveries. Ahmed doubled his tally with the dismissal of the dangerous Australian as Romario Shepherd and Krunal Pandya took centre stage.
The duo produced kept the scoreboard ticking to eat down on the target, but Digvesh Rathi’s final over ensured that the visitors would fall 9 runs short of the target.
