An engineer planned to build a small second source of income alongside his corporate job. To execute that, he invested Rs 1.75 lakh in an e-rickshaw and handed it over to a driver in the hopes to earn some percentage of the total income. But what happened after he handed over the vehicle to a driver turned into a harrowing experience instead of a side income.
In a post on X, Gaurav Tomar shared the incident that happened with one of his colleagues, who he said had been looking for a way to earn some additional income alongside his regular job. The idea to invest in an e-rickshaw came from an office peon, who also told him to give it to a driver on a daily rental arrangement.
Office Peon Suggested Him The Idea To Buy An E-Rickshaw
“How can an engineer
be so dumb after 12 years in a corporate job?” Tomar wrote. “What happened, my colleague got an idea to earn some extra money. And that idea was given to him by the office peon: buy an E-Rickshaw, give it to someone, and take Rs. 500 to 700 rent per day. You will also save on your own commute.”
His colleague then purchased an e-rickshaw for Rs 1.75 lakh and handed it over to the driver, agreeing on a daily payment of Rs 600. But the plan allegedly fell apart almost immediately, as the driver did not return with the e-rickshaw.
“Still Has Not Found Him”
“So he told the office peon, fine, find someone. The peon suggested a man who come from Bihar. Then he bought an e-rickshaw for 175000/- and gave it to him at Rs. 600 per day. The man took it and ran away the same day,” he said. “He has been looking for him for 15 days now, and still has not found him.”
“Idea Is Not Dumb, But Execution Is”
In no time, the incident caught some attention on the platform, with users questioning whether the individual had properly verified the details of the driver before handing over the vehicle, some suggested going to the police and file a case against the peon.
“Idea is not dumb, but execution is. Usually for car, we can get hold of drivers original license. Also aadhar copy and address proof etc. if any false move, we can file a complaint immediately. I don’t know whether he has got such from an e rickshaw driver,” said a user.

Another wrote, “Catch hold of the peon, he must have been a partner in this crime. Lodge FIR. I am sure police will help.”
An individual commented, “It’s an old scheme where people rent the simple rickshaws to local people, and engineer was not dumb here but he seems to be in hurry and ignored the process of guarantee by someone else of ghat person who ran away.”
“This is not dumb, this is carelessness pro max, trust issues and naivety to the core, not because they left but because he let them, without keeping anything with him to get them caught,” someone remarked.
