15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened the innings for India in the fourth T20I against England at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday (July 9). The left-handed batter batted with a strike rate of 150.00, scoring 15 runs off 10 balls. His knock included one four and one six, both coming off Josh Tongue in the second over of India’s innings.

Vaibhav’s stay at the crease, however, was cut short by Jofra Archer on the fourth ball of the third over. Attempting an aerial shot against his Rajasthan Royals teammate, the teenage opener miscued the ball and was caught by Sam Curran inside the 30-yard circle.

Interestingly, Archer had
also dismissed Sooryavanshi in the third T20I at Trent Bridge.
Vaibhav, who is the youngest cricketer to represent India’s men’s team in international cricket looked visibly disappointed after his dismissal.

Vaibhav made his T20I debut at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 4, scoring 14 runs off 10 balls, including two sixes. In the third T20I at Trent Bridge on July 7, he made 13 runs from five deliveries, smashing two more sixes for the Shreyas Iyer-led side.

Vaibhav earned his maiden India call-up on June 6, 2026, after winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2026. The teenage opener enjoyed a sensational campaign for Rajasthan Royals, scoring 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.30.
During the season, Vaibhav rewrote the record books by smashing 72 sixes, the most by any batter in a single T20 tournament, surpassing the previous world record. His extraordinary performances also earned him the Indian Premier League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
