9 Years After Dangal, Aamir Khan To Return To Japanese Cinema In 2027 With THIS Film

Aamir Khan, who last had his film in Japanese cinemas in 2018, is all set to return to Japan after nearly a decade. Khan’s 2025 film Sitaare Zameen Par is all set to release in Japan in spring 2027, nearly a decade after Dangal was released there in 2018. The announcement about the same was made by Japanese distributor Geek Pictures on September 25, 2026.

In a tweet, the production house wrote, “Distributed by Geek Pictures Indian Film ‘Sitaare! The Miracle Team of Stardust’ 🏀⭐ Set for Spring 2027 Release ⭐ Starring #AamirKhan from ‘3 Idiots’! A heartwarming ode to life filled with laughter and tears ⭐️.”

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par tells the heartwarming story of Gulshan Arora (played by Aamir Khan), a hot-headed basketball coach assigned to train a team of adults with intellectual disabilities. What starts as a punishment soon transforms into a journey of acceptance, growth, and inclusion. The film is a spiritual sequel to 2007’s Taare Zameen Par and is an official Hindi adaptation of the Spanish hit Campeones.

Interestingly, during the film’s theatrical release, Aamir had initially stated that it would not arrive on OTT platforms. Instead, the movie was later made available on YouTube through a pay-per-view model for audiences in India and several international markets, but nine months after its release, the movie premiered on SonyLiv.

The film also features performances by Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai and Naman Misra.

The project is produced by Aamir Khan Productions along with Aparna Purohit, while B. Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka also serve as producers. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.

Aamir Khan On Work Front

Aamir Khan is reportedly preparing for another major physical transformation, this time for Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming sports drama Lalkaara. Lalkaara has been written by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh and is set against the world of Indian cricket. While complete plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to deal with rivalry, friendship and patriotism.
