Amid increasing scrutiny over the new government formation in Karnataka, Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar said the event would be held in a low-key manner, with only key dignitaries present, to avoid chaos in Bengaluru.
DK Shivakumar is expected to take the oath as Chief Minister at 4:05 pm in Bengaluru’s Lok Bhavan on June 3, Wednesday. “Since it is a working day, we don’t want chaos in Bengaluru city. Over 17,000 vehicles have been booked. Police officers were worried about chaos and public grievances,” he told reporters on Saturday.
“We have decided to have a low-key swearing-in function on June 3 at Lok Bhawan to avoid chaos in Bengaluru. We also have to help the common people,” he added.

He told reporters that the ceremony will be broadcast live at the KPCC headquarters, as the party is unable to accommodate all leaders at the oath-taking site. When asked if other leaders would be sworn in with him, Shivakumar said, “That I don’t know; whatever the party high command decides will be done.”
DK Shivakumar’s road to the Chief Minister’s chair was cleared after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) unanimously elected as the leader. Outgoing CM Siddaramaiah, who resigned on May 28, proposed his name as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The CLP held a closely-watched meeting in Bengaluru’s Vidhan Soudha on Saturday, attended by CLP Secretary Allamprabhu Patil, AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal. Outgoing CM Siddaramaiah, who resigned on May 28, proposed Shivakumar’s name as the next leader.
After being elected as the CLP leader, Shivakumar met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan and formally staked claim to form the next government in the state.
