'Want Guilty To Be Punished': Zubeen Garg's Wife Seeks Swift Justice As SIT Names Key Accused

Late singer Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima on Friday expressed satisfaction over the chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which named four individuals as accused, in connection with her husband’s death.

Speaking to reporters, Garima said the investigation stemmed from the FIR lodged by the family. “The investigation began on the basis of the FIR filed by us against the accused on behalf of our family. The probe proceeded on expected lines for which we are very grateful to the investigating agency,” she told news agency PTI.

She noted that the findings were in accordance with public sentiment and stressed her faith in the legal process. “Now everything depends on the judicial process, which we hope will move smoothly. We have faith in our

nation’s judiciary and want the guilty to be punished accordingly,” she added.

Garima also referred to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s assurance regarding a fast-track court. “We also want the matter to be resolved at the earliest. Our house has been shattered and people are very disturbed that a person like Zubeen Garg could be killed. The people of entire Assam want the guilty to be punished,” she stated.

On the involvement of Singaporean authorities, she clarified that the probe was being conducted based on the family’s FIR and reiterated her confidence in the investigation and judiciary.

On Friday, the SIT submitted its chargesheet in a local court, accusing four people of murder. Those named include Garg’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.

Mahanta was the main organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, which Garg had travelled to attend. The singer died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea on September 19.

Additionally, Garg’s two personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, were charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust for allegedly misappropriating entrusted funds or property.
