The release of Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, has sparked a major debate online. While audiences have largely praised Ram Charan’s performance in the sports drama, many have also expressed disappointment over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma, in Buchi Babu Sana’s directorial.
Within hours of the film’s release, social media platforms were flooded with criticism, with many viewers accusing the makers of reducing the female lead to a stereotypical and overly sexualised role. Let’s find out how the film portrayed Janhvi’s character and what netizens are saying about it:
How Does Peddi Show Janhvi Kapoor?
Janhvi Kapoor’s introduction scene in the film is being called highly problematic. Ram Charan’s character objectifies her while describing her physical
appearance in an extremely derogatory way. In a following scene, when a supporting character asks Charan’s Peddi how he will recognise Janhvi, he says, “Chehra dekh kar nahi, kamariya se phechan lenge (I can recognise her from her waist),” adding, “Uss chikri ka hume sab kuch pata hai bas chehra chod ke (I remember every bit of that lady other than her face).”
It does not end here. Ram Charan’s Peddi then visits Janhvi’s house at night and forcibly kisses her. While Janhvi expresses objection to it repeatedly, Peddi justifies it, saying it was his way of expressing love.
Netizens Slam ‘Objectification’
Netizens have come out slamming the objectification of Janhvi Kapoor’s character in Peddi. One of the users talked about the above-mentioned sequence on X and wrote, “Director’s sensibilities aside, what happened to the lead actors’ sensibilities when it came to that sequence. It’s very bizarre.” Another user called her presentation in the film “disgusting”. “SRV (Sandeep Reddy Vanga) once said that close-ups on a woman’s body parts are a director’s way of forcing the audience to stare and feel something. Now look at #Peddi. It’s exactly that,” a third comment read.

Janhvi Kapoor is a brilliant actress and it’s a pity that she’s not being used properly by any film industry.#Peddi is such a farce when it comes to her character. Cut her entire role and the movie could still progress without her.
Leaving aside the glamour part, her only…

Janhvi Kapoor Also Feels She Is ‘Disrespected’?
A viral screenshot on social media claims that Janhvi Kapoor recently ‘liked’ an Instagram post calling her role in Peddi the “most expensive disrespect” to an actress. Parts of the post call out the makers for adding excessive shots of Janhvi’s “waist, midriff and backside” and being “obsessed” with her.
The post also reads, “It is easy to blame an actress for the roles she takes, but the actual timeline tells a different story. Reports show that Janhvi Kapoor explicitly questioned these shots during post-production, a boundary that perfectly mirrors her recent public stance against the industry’s habit of oversexualizing women.”
