BTS leader RM is adding another notable responsibility to his already impressive resume. While fans around the world continue to celebrate the group’s ongoing activities, the singer has now stepped into a role that goes beyond music and places a spotlight on Korea’s rich cultural legacy.
The National Museum of Korea has officially appointed RM, whose real name is Kim Namjoon, as its Global Goodwill Ambassador. With the appointment, the BTS star becomes the first person to hold the position for the institution.
According to the museum, the collaboration is aimed at expanding its international reach and bringing greater attention to Korean history, traditional culture and heritage through RM’s global influence.
As part of his responsibilities, RM
will participate in a range of promotional initiatives organised by the museum. The goal is to introduce Korean art, history and cultural traditions to audiences across the world through various outreach activities.
The appointment ceremony took place on June 19 and was attended by National Museum of Korea Director Yoo Hong-Jun. Photographs released from the event showed RM and the museum director marking the beginning of the partnership with a handshake.
This is not the first time RM has been associated with a public service or heritage-related initiative. In 2023, he was appointed public relations ambassador for South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense’s Killed in Action Recovery & Identification (MAKRI) organisation.
Through that role, RM helped raise awareness about efforts to locate and identify the remains of Korean War veterans and reunite them with their families. The initiative highlighted his interest in projects connected to history, remembrance and public service.
The latest announcement comes as BTS continues its massive ARIRANG World Tour. The tour, which began on April 9, 2026, at Goyang Stadium in South Korea, marks the group’s return to large-scale live performances.
The record-breaking tour includes 85 stadium and dome concerts across 34 cities worldwide and features an immersive 360-degree stage experience. Earlier this year, BTS also celebrated its 13th anniversary through FESTA events, including two sold-out shows in Busan.
