Ram Charan Hosts Japanese Chef Takamasa Osawa At Home For Special Biryani Night With Upasana

In a heartwarming blend of cultures, Tokyo-based chef Takamasa Osawa recently brought his celebrated biryani to the Jubilee Hills residence of Tollywood superstar Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Konidela.

The Michelin Bib Gourmand chef shared glimpses of the private gathering on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him. “Today I cooked biryani in a private home. Grateful for the trust. This city keeps teaching me what biryani is,” he wrote.

From Kitchen Prep To Traditional Outdoor Cooking

Osawa’s visit unfolded like an experience rather than a meal. He documented the tranquil surroundings of the Charan household — koi fish, exotic birds, and their pet dog Rhyme offering a calm welcome. After preparing ingredients indoors, the chef moved outdoors to cook the biryani in a traditional style, letting technique and aroma take centre stage.

A Warm Family Moment Around The Biryani Pot

One of the evening’s most touching moments featured a pregnant Upasana standing alongside Ram Charan and his mother, Surekha, as they waited for the biryani to be unveiled. When Osawa lifted the lid, releasing the fragrant rice, Ram Charan’s delight was evident. The night ended with a heartfelt hug from the actor, which Osawa later described as “a day I won’t forget.”

Osawa’s dedication to biryani spans over 15 years. A transformative trip to Tamil Nadu led him across India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, studying regional variations of the dish. Today, he runs an intimate 10-seater restaurant in Tokyo devoted entirely to biryani, earning global recognition for his craft.

The special meal came at a joyful time for the Konidela family. Ram Charan is currently filming Peddi alongside Janhvi Kapoor, following the success of Game Changer. Meanwhile, Upasana is expecting twins, adding to the family that welcomed daughter Klin Kaara in 2023.
