Tamil star Karthi is all set to captivate audiences with his upcoming film Vaa Vaathiyaar. Starring Krithi Shetty as the female lead, the film will hit the big screens on December 12.
That being said, Karthi and the Vaa Vaathiyaar team are in the final leg of promotions. During the film’s pre-release event, the Kaithi actor expressed that Tamil cinema must push its boundaries to preserve its unique identity.
Karthi On The Identity Of Tamil Cinema
Karthi said he often wondered, “What is the identity of Tamil films today?” He shared, “I always think that Telugu makers are doing big films and Malayalam makers are doing different films. What’s the identity of Tamil films? We can’t do new things if we are scared to try. We need to break the barriers.”
Karthi Hails Director Nalan Kumarasamy’s Vision
Vaa Vaathiyaar is directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy. Referring to him as a filmmaker with a huge fan base, the Siruthai actor shared, “Many directors like him. Any set I go to, they ask me, ‘Are you working on a Nalan sir film?’ He lives by a ‘Thug Life’ motive.”
Karthi also noted that Nalan’s concepts take time to sink in, much like the filmmaker’s popular dialogue from Soodhu Kavvum. He said, “Like his dialogue in Soodhu Kavvum, you need time to understand his ideas. Even when you understand them, you can never imagine it.”
Why Karthi Initially Hesitated To Sign The Film
Karthi said the challenges Vaathiyaar gave him were beyond his expectations. He shared, “It was a huge challenge. I was hesitant and doubtful if I could pull it off, but I understood that we have to face our fears to enter the next stage.”
He further mentioned that the film was risky, as his character features an alter ego inspired by MGR. He said, “Working on Vaa Vaathiyaar is like walking on a sword. Either you win or lose terribly.”
Vaa Vaathiyaar marks Karthi’s return to the big screen after a year-long gap since Meiyazhagan. The actor plays a character inspired by the late actor Ramchandran.
Cast and Crews Of Karthi
Alongside Karthi and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles, the film stars Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Anandaraj, GM Sundar, Karunakaran, Shilpa Manjunath, and Ramesh Thilak. Produced by K.E Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green Vaa Vaathiyaar is slated to release on December 12.
