The latest of these developments lie in the club washrooms. According to Tifo Football, several elite fooball clubs in the world, including Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, have installed ‘smart urinals’ in their men’s restrooms to monitor in real-time the hydration level of their players.
As per them, players in these clubs have to choose their profile on a touchscreen dashboard above the urinal before urinating. The samples are immediately collected and checked before the dashboard informs them of their ‘hydration score’ — whether they need to adjust their water intake.
The report said that team doctors can also use these samples to test urine color, electrolyte concentration, volume and frequency. They also use it to measure urine specific gravity – this measures how concentrated or watery your urine is compared to pure water and tells how well your kidneys balance your body’s fluid levels.
