As Jannat completes 18 years, it feels just right to look back at some memories from the film. Starring Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan in the lead roles, the movie has proven to be one of the most loved romantic dramas of all time. Years later, Hashmi has recalled how a meet-and-greet turned into a stampede-like situation in 2008.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Emraan Hashmi recalled, “I remember it was May 16, 2008, during the inaugural IPL season. We had gone to a mall in Kolkata for a meet-and-greet. What started as a simple interaction quickly turned into a near stampede.”
The actor continued and shared that the situation became so unmanageable that the organisers had to move Emraan to a safer location. “The situation got so intense that the mall
owner had to step in, and I was even moved into a bathroom to manage the crowd, with police called in to ensure everyone’s safety,” he shared.
“I couldn’t believe people were just shouting my name, wanting to catch a glimpse,” Emraan added and continued, “‘Jannat’ definitely became a huge turning point in my career.”
More about Jannat
For those unaware, the 2008 romantic thriller Jannat marked Sonal Chauhan’s Bollywood debut alongside Emraan Hashmi. The film was directed by Kunal Deshmukh and backed by Mukesh Bhatt under the banner of Vishesh Films.
The movie gained massive popularity, especially because of its hit soundtrack. Among its most loved songs was Zara Sa, which emerged as a chartbuster and continues to enjoy popularity on social media even today.
The track was sung by late singer KK, composed by Pritam, and penned by Sayeed Quadri. Over the years, Sonal has featured in several Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada films, including Bbuddah… Hoga Terra Baap and 3G. Despite appearing in multiple projects, Sonal Chauhan is still best remembered for her performance in Jannat and the timeless popularity of the film’s music.
