Patidar needed 17 balls to reach the 50-run mark at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12. The fifty in 17 balls by Patidar helped him equal Adam Gilchrist’s 17-year-old record of scoring the fastest 50 in the IPL by a captain.
In the 2009 IPL match between Deccan Chargers and Delhi Capitals in Centurion on May 22, 2009, Gilchrist also reached the 50-run mark in just 17 balls.

Patidar added 65 runs from just 23 balls for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who made 50 from 38 balls.
He was sent back to the pavilion by Mitchell Santner on the sixth ball of the 16th over of the RCB innings. Patidar attempted to play a big shot off Santner’s bowling but failed to get the desired distance and was caught by Tilak Varma near the boundary ropes.
