An aerial video of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s Missing Link project has grabbed attention on social media. Shared by an X handle called Mumbai Rains, the clip shows a cable-stayed bridge that has a significant gap in the middle. The Missing Link project, which started in 2019, aims to cut travel time between Mumbai and Pune significantly. However, the state of the project shown in the video has sparked concern about the status of the infrastructure project.
The Rs 6,690 crore Missing Link project includes the construction of the tallest cable-stayed bridge in Maharashtra. The bridge is being built over Tiger Valley and once complete, will stand at a height of 182 metres above the ground. However, a video circulating on X has cast doubts about
the completion of the entire Missing Link project.

Status Of The Missing Link Project
As per a report in The Indian Express, the Missing Link project is nearly complete and may open to the public within the next few months. It can reduce travel time between Pune and Mumbai by 30 minutes.
The existing 19.8 km section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway from Khopoli exit to Sinhgad Institute in Kusgaon passes through the town of Lonavala. The tourist overflow to Lonavala and the narrow road have been causing traffic chaos in this section of the Expressway.
The Missing Link project aims to reduce the distance to 13.3 km by cutting across the hill via two tunnels,1.7 km and 8.9 km long, respectively. Most of the construction, including tunnels and viaducts, is now finished. The remaining work includes installing key safety systems, finishing the deck of the valley bridge and completing road surfacing. The project is expected to open in May.
