A case of ragging and assault by senior students on juniors has come to light at Government Doon Medical College in Patel Nagar, Dehradun, with allegations that juniors were beaten with belts.
In a written complaint submitted to the hostel warden on January 13, a first-year MBBS student stated that the incident occurred the previous day. He named two seniors from the 2023 and 2024 batches, alleging that after assaulting him, the accused confronted him inside the hostel, leading him to formally report the matter.
“I am scared of retribution, and this left me shaken,” the student stated in his complaint, Times of India reported.

Medical College Principal Dr Geeta Jain said the Anti-Ragging Committee is conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter. She added that strict action will be taken against the guilty students once the committee submits its report.
The Discipline Committee has recorded statements from students and reiterated that indiscipline will not be tolerated in the college. The administration stated that if the allegations are confirmed, the accused may face strict disciplinary action, including possible suspension.
Doon Medical College has faced ragging allegations in the past. In September 2023, an intern and seven senior students were suspended after a junior reported being beaten. In a separate incident in November 2019, six students were suspended following a harassment complaint.
