Fresh off his big National Award win for 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey is taking time to reflect on what defines his cinematic journey. Known for his rooted portrayals in films that highlight the everyday
struggles, values, and emotions of India’s heartland, Massey has built a reputation for staying true to stories that feel both intimate and universal. In a recent chat with India Today, he said that he will continue to bring such stories to light as they belong to the “real Bharat”, unlike stories from cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
When asked whether he has now fully explored this genre or if there are still stories left untold, the actor gave a thoughtful response. “I see it as Indian Cinema. So tomorrow you might see me in a Tamil or a Malayalam film. Maybe you might see me in a film from the Northeast or Gujarati, you might see me in any other film,” he said, leaving the door open for exciting ventures across languages and regions.
But even as he looks ahead to new cinematic territories, Vikrant remains deeply committed to the kind of storytelling that has defined his career. “Yes, I will continue telling those rooted stories. I will continue telling those stories which are so rooted in our culture, our ethnicity, and our individuality. Because—and pardon me if you disagree—but Mumbai, Delhi, these mega cities, that is not real Bharat. If you go 100 km further from these cities, that’s when you see the real Bharat. I want to represent those people,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Vikrant is preparing for White, a historical drama biopic in which he will portray the renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. He also recently confirmed Dostana 2. The film was initially set to star Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and newcomer Lakshya, who was set to make his debut with the project. However, the original cast was completely reshuffled.
The film will now star Vikrant Massey and Lakshya. In a conversation with Times Now, Vikrant confirmed his role and revealed that the film will showcase him in a completely new avatar. “Karan (Johar) sir will make sure that I wear good clothes and I wear those fancy sunglasses. Shooting somewhere in Europe,” he said.
