Aditi Govitrikar became the first Indian woman to win the Mrs World title in 2001 at the age of 27. She was married to surgeon Muffazal Lakdawala at the time.
A little prior to Govitrikar, Priyanka Chopra
and Lara Dutta won the Miss Universe titles in 2000. In sharp contrast with Dutta and Chopra, the De Dana Dan actress mourned the treatment she received after Mrs World 2001.
Aditi Govitrikar did not receive expensive gifts
While Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra received expensive gifts following Miss Universe 2000, Aditi Govitrikar mourned that she settled for a humble bouquet.
“I became Mrs World the same year that Lara and Priyanka also became winners. We had a party, the unfortunate party, actually,” Govitrikar told Hauterrfly.
In the wake of her Miss Universe 2000 title, Priyanka Chopra appeared on the covers of Femina and Filmfare magazines. Lara Dutta later appeared in Vogue.

“The funny part was that I was not at the same publication house as they were, so they were given a flat, a car, and all, and I was given a bouquet,” she added. In 1999, Govitrikar appeared on the cover of Elle for the “baby bumps” issue.
Lara Dutta joked about Aditi’s marriage
At the celebration party, Aditi said she stood next to Lara Dutta. Aditi recalled Lara’s words to her: “Look, we have a car, a house, and you have a husband.”
Aditi claimed she replied, saying, “That’s brilliant. That’s a good thing.” Despite the incident, the 51-year-old said she felt empowered to share the moment with Chopra and Dutta.
“It was inspiring to see so many Indian women achieving recognition at the same time. It felt like we were breaking barriers together,” she added.
Govitrikar also won the best body and best face prizes at the Asian Super Model Contest in 1997. She later acted in the Hindi TV serial Ye Meri Life Hai. She also appeared in TV series like Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi (2008) and Bigg Boss (Season 3) (2009). She divorced her husband, Muffazal Lakdawala, in 2009. Govitrikar holds an MBBS degree from Grant Medical College in Mumbai.
