Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened the innings for the India U19 team in their second Group A match of the ongoing ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 on Saturday (January 17) and scored 72 runs from 67 balls against
Bangladesh. During his stay at the crease in Bulawayo, he slammed 6 fours and 3 sixes for the Ayush Mhatre-led side. Vaibhav needed just 30 balls on Saturday to complete his half-century.
Indian team management and Indian fans had high hopes from Sooryavanshi on Saturday, and the 14-year-old left-handed batter from Samastipur in Bihar did not disappoint. However, he was unlucky to miss out on a deserving century, but before making his way back to the pavilion, he helped India bounce back from a top-order collapse.
Before leading India’s comeback in the match against Bangladesh, Vaibhav also completed 1000 runs in youth ODIs.
He needed 25 runs on Saturday to join the 1000-run club, and he achieved the objective by hitting Iqbal Hossain Emon for a six on the fourth ball of the 8th over of India’s innings.
Vaibhav, who is playing his 20th youth ODI for India on Saturday, is the third fastest Indian batter to score 1000 runs in youth ODIs.
