There’s no stop to the Dhurandhar: The Revenge hysteria at the box office. As per trade trackers, the Ranveer Singh-starrer has already crossed Rs 1,400 crore worldwide on Day 13, emerging as the first Hindi film to achieve this milestone globally without a China release. The first part of the film brought about a resurgence in Akshaye Khanna’s stardom.
As for part two, Rakesh Bedi has emerged as quite the rage as Jameel Jamali brings about a climactic twist in the end. But there’s another actor, who’s career has seen a significant revival with Dhurandhar. Gaurav Gera, who plays Alam, left everyone shocked with his look in the film. And in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, his final scene with Ranveer’s Hamza Ali Manzari continues to remain a talking
point.
His Aalam, an Indian spy disguised as a juice vendor in Lyari, was in stark contrast of the comic roles he has been known for essaying. Now, speaking exclusively to News18, Mona Singh, Gaurav’s best friend, opens up on his big comeback and much-awaited success. For the unversed, their friendship began on the sets of the 2003 television show, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin.
“He keeps travelling between Mumbai and Gurugram. His parents are in Gurugram and he’s very close to his family just like I am. He loves being there and he loves being here too. He tries to balance his time between both the cities,” she says. And has she watched the second part of the Aditya Dhar directorial? “I haven’t. But I watched the first film and loved it. Doosri film chaar ghante ki hai, so I’ll have to plan my day in such a way that I can watch the film (laughs),” she says.
Gaurav recently revealed that it was Mona who told him to keep his look from Dhurandhar under wraps, when he decided to show his pictures from the screen test to her. Reacting to it, she says, “I stopped him from disclosing his look and character graph in the film. I reminded him of his NDA and told him ki chup raho (laughs). These things come with experience. But I’m very, very proud of his journey and the fact that he waited it out.”
Expressing surprise over Gaurav’s look in the film, Krystle D’souza, who featured in the song Shararat, had exclusively told us earlier, “Oh, my God! I couldn’t recognise Gaurav Gera for the first few seconds. I was like, ‘I feel like I know this face.’ I just couldn’t place him. After sometime, I recognised him. Watching him sell juices in a singsong tone made me remember the Dubsmashes that he used to make (laughs),” she says.
She went on to praise Aditya for roping in television actors like her, Gaurav and Saumya Tandon in the film. “A lot of people still harbour misconceptions about us (TV actors). We’re rejected for being an over-exposed face. Sometimes, we’re rejected because we make too many reels. But didn’t matter to Aditya sir where we came from, what kind of work we’ve done in the past,” she added.
