Jaaved Jaaferi Feels Reality Shows Have Lost Originality, Praises Boogie Woogie

Remember how we couldn’t take our eyes off our TV whenever Boogie Woogie was on? The iconic reality dance show was pure entertainment. Recently, one of its judges and veteran actor, Jaaved Jaaferi, shared his thoughts on today’s reality shows.
In an interview with The Times of India, Jaaved shared his thoughts on how today’s reality shows stack up against Boogie Woogie. He also spoke about the actresses he enjoyed working with over the years and shared his hopes for his son, Meezaan.

‘Our Show Was Original’

Talking about the growing similarity in recent reality shows, Jaaved Jaaferi said he finds most of them quite alike. He noted that even though formats may evolve, the ‘core presentation’ rarely changes. While there is plenty of talent around,

he feels ‘nothing’ truly stands out. He also reflected on the impact of the internet, pointing out that dancers today can watch performances from all over the world and pick up new styles, whereas in his era, people did not have the same exposure. Comparing current reality shows with his show, he described Boogie Woogie as ‘original’ and said that if such a show ever returns, it should come back as a fresh and updated version of itself. For anyone who grew up watching it, Boogie Woogie was more than just a dance reality show. Airing from 1996 to 2014, it entertained generations with its fun and lively format. The show’s iconic judging panel included Jaaved Jaaferi, Naved Jafri, and Ravi Behl, whose camaraderie added to the show’s charm.

About Favourite Actresses And Meezaan

Jaaved reminisced about his iconic dance collaborations with leading actresses and named his favourites. He said, “Meenakshi was very good. Madhuri Dixit too.” He also mentioned Neelam, saying she matched his steps really well. Talking about Meezaan, who recently shared screen space with his father in De De Pyaar De 2, Jaaved said he would love to direct his son someday. He added that he has seen his son grow, understands his strengths as a performer, and would love to explore them creatively at the right time.
