Nashik, Apr 30 (PTI) The Nashik district administration on Thursday urged citizens to use water sparingly due to shortage amid a prediction of heatwave by the India Meteorological Department.
The water level in the seven large and 19 medium irrigation projects in the district stands at 41.61 per cent of storage capacity, including 54.35 per cent in the Gangapur dam, an official said.
“Water supply through tankers is being provided to 235 villages and settlements. For this, 75 tankers have been deployed. Water is being supplied through an average of 149 rounds per day. Also, 23 wells have been acquired for water supply through tankers. Through this, drinking water is being provided to about 1,35,566 citizens,” the official said.
Water supply is
being provided through tankers in the scarcity-affected areas of the district, especially in talukas like Chandwad, Yeola, Igatpuri, Malegaon, Peth, Sinnar, he said.
It includes 33 tankers in Yeola, 10 in Malegaon, 14 in Igatpuri, five tankers in Chandwad and six in Sinnar.
District Collector Ayush Prasad has appealed to citizens to use water sparingly.
“The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning. Collector Prasad has asked citizens to take necessary precautions. All primary health centres, sub-district hospitals and government health institutions have been given medicines, beds and manpower for the treatment of heat-related diseases,” the official said.
