A major flyover near Haiderpur on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road has become a topic of concern after a large crack was spotted on its surface. The structure is part of the well-known Mukarba Chowk grade separator and has been in use since March 2009. It was built by the Delhi PWD at a cost of around Rs 195 Crore to reduce traffic jams and make travel easier between GT Karnal Road and the Outer Ring Road.
Every day, thousands of vehicles depend on this route, especially during peak hours. The flyover has been carrying heavy load for many years and was recently added to a government project for better road quality and beautification. But the recent damage has worried commuters who travel through the stretch regularly. People are now asking why such an important
flyover did not receive checks and repairs on time.
Large Crack Appears on Haiderpur Flyover, Raises Safety Concerns
In the video shared online, the crack has covered more than half of the road, leaving very little space for movement. Vehicles are seen moving slowly in a single line, crossing the damaged part one after another. A drone view also shows a long queue of cars, buses and trucks stuck on the flyover, waiting for their turn to pass safely. The traffic jam goes far behind and drivers look confused and worried as they try to move ahead without getting too close to the broken section.

Public Questions Delay In Repairs And Road Safety Measures
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Beautiful space technology.”
Another shared, “Near Alipur on NH 44, a pothole appeared on the flyover four months ago, and the flyover is still closed. This is the condition of the capital of India and one of the busiest roads, GT Road. So you can imagine how the rest of the country must be. Mark my words, if it gets fixed in less than one or two more months… (implying disbelief that it will be repaired soon).”
“They’ve dug up Tunnels underneath,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Why is it still open?”
Another mentioned, “Corruption at its peak.”
Referring to Stranger Things, one more added, “Vacna is here, guys.”
According to a Times of India report, the PWD minister shared that a private company studied 896 big and small crossings in Delhi last year to understand traffic problems. This company has also worked with the National Highways Authority of India, so it has experience in this field. Among the most important spots on their list are the ITO crossing, Mukarba Chowk, Metcalfe House junction, Kingsway Camp area and another key stretch on Ring Road. The goal is to make movement smoother and prevent regular traffic chaos.
