Star India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, last seen in action during Haryana’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy group game against Hyderabad last month, has contracted dengue and chikungunya and will be out of cricketing
action for months, he informed on Thursday.
Chahal has been out of action on the domestic circuit since his last outing for Haryana on November 30 and also missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final against Jharkhand in Pune on Thursday.
Even as he wished his team well ahead of the marquee domestic T20 final, Chahal shared a health update with his friends and followers.
“Wishing my team Haryana all the very best for the SMAT finals. I wished to be a part of the team, but unfortunately, I am down with dengue and chikungunya, which have really taken a toll on my health,” Chahal posted on his Instagram story.
Chahal didn’t specify a return timeline, but he will be eager to make his comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which starts on December 24.
Chahal hasn’t been selected for India since last year’s T20 World Cup and hasn’t featured for the senior national team since August 2023.
Chahal travelled to England to feature in county cricket and the One-Day Cup for Northamptonshire, taking six wickets in as many games at an economy rate of under six.
Chahal also impressed in red-ball cricket, claiming 12 wickets, including a five-for, in three Division Two County Championship matches.
These performances underlined Chahal’s adaptability and earned him a return to Northamptonshire for a third consecutive summer, cementing his reputation as a valued asset in county cricket.
Overall, Chahal has taken 44 first-class wickets and seven in List A for Northamptonshire.
“Yuzi is a magnificent asset to this squad. His record across his career speaks for itself and he brings so much class and experience to the group. I loved working with him this year and am excited to go again in 2026,” coach Darren Lehmann said.
Chahal was also retained by the Punjab Kings, who finished runners-up in the IPL 2025 season, for the upcoming campaign.
