Mohammed Kaif believes Yashasvi Jaiswal is the only one capable of breaking Virender Sehwag’s ‘300 waala record’ , a likely reference to the former India opener’s world record of the fastest triple century
in Tests. Kaif believes Jaiswal has shown the ‘patience’ required for such big hundreds, while also matching the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in terms of numbers after the first 26 Tests.
Jaiswal scored a brilliant 175 against the West Indies in the second and final Test of the ongoing series in India. This was his fifth 150-plus score — the most by any Indian before turning 24, surpassing legends like Tendulkar, Graeme Smith, and Javed Miandad. Only Don Bradman had more at that age.
Jaiswal also went past Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir for the most 150-plus scores as an opener for India. Remarkably, he became only the second Indian after Kohli to score 150-plus on the first day of a Test twice.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is a batsman with the patience to score big hundreds and set new marks. In his first 26 matches, his numbers are as good as Sachin and Virat. Scoring at high strike rate, his hundreds mostly put India on path to victory. Sehwag ka 300 wala record, Jaiswal hi todega,” Kaif wrote on social media platform X.
Jaiswal looked set for a third double-century on Saturday but got run out. He drove a full ball from Jayden Seales to mid-off and set off for a run, but didn’t find support from Shubman Gill and couldn’t turn back in time to make it to his crease.
“It’s a part of the game. So it’s fine,” Jaiswal later told the host broadcaster. “I always try to play as long as I can. I just think that if I am out there and take it forward, I can play as long as I can. Early on, there was movement. I was thinking if I bat for one hour and then after that, it will be easy for me to score runs,” he said.
