A fire erupted on one of the coaches of train number 12204 Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express on Saturday morning, while the train was at the Sirhind Junction in Punjab.
As an alarm was raised, the passengers
were shifted to other coaches to ensure everyone’s safety.
The situation was soon brought under control, and no casualties were reported.
The Northern Railway said the affected coach was detached soon after the fire was noticed.
A video of the incident showed fire extinguishers at work after a massive blaze erupted on one of the coaches of the train.
Another video of the incident showed passengers on the railway track, as smoke could be seen in one of the coaches of the train.
According to news agency PTI, the fire broke out at nearly 7.30 am, when the train was approaching from Amritsar.
A police official was quoted as saying that smoke was noticed on one of the AC coaches of the train, and passengers were safely evacuated.
Fire tenders were immediately called in to put out the fire, the official said.
The train is expected to depart for its destination shortly.
The cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
In a separate incident, a truck caught fire near a tunnel on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Thane district in the early hours of Saturday.
There were no reports of casualties in the incident that occurred near the Shirol tunnel in Shahpur taluka around 4 am.
The heavy vehicle heading towards Nagpur caught fire, and the emergency response team put out the blaze within 45 minutes.
The vehicle was completely gutted in the blaze, and a probe was underway to determine the cause.
On Friday, a fire broke out in a factory manufacturing candles and glass items in Navi Mumbai.
Nobody was injured in the fire that started around 2.15 am in the unit in the Raable MIDC area.
Upon being alerted, the fire services of the Navi Mumbai civic body rushed six fire engines to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control around 10 am.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
